What Happens to Your Brain When You Fall in Love?

Since the dawn of time, everyone from astronomers to poets has tried to define exactly what love is. It’s an indefinable, abstract concept - but you’d be hard pushed to find anyone who denies its existence. So, we can’t see it or touch it, but we feel it intensely. Traditionally, we imagine love to happen in the heart; but modern science tells us it actually happens in the brain. So, just what is happening to our heads when we fall in love with someone?

Here’s a little bit of science behind the feeling of love.

Euphoria-Inducing Chemicals

When we first begin to feel that intense attraction to another person, our brains are flooded with chemicals that induce feelings of euphoria - serotonin, oxytocin, serotonin, vasopressin and dopamine. Some studies show that releases of dopamine, a ‘happy hormone’, could be a natural memory booster, as it is produced in the same part of the brain that stores long term memories. This could be why you remember the first time you fell in love, or went on a first date, with such clarity.

Intoxicated by Love

Have you ever been in love and felt utterly addicted to the object of your affections? Love is intoxicating because the feeling of pleasure these chemicals give you is addictive, and we always want more of it. As animals, we are driven to do almost everything in life by hormone signals. We know when to eat, sleep, and react to potential dangers, so it makes sense that we follow our pleasure hormones in the same way when it comes to love. Forming deep connections with one another is also beneficial for our survival - love, in one form or another, is essential for human beings to exist.

Tips on how to keep a long distance relationship strong

Love is a tricky ball game and it can be even harder when you live a long distance apart. If you’re in a new long-distance relationship or your partner had to move away from work, here are a few tips on how to keep your relationship strong.

Communicate lots - We’re very lucky that in the modern world that we have plenty of opportunities to talk to people miles away. Whether that’s by video calling or a general phone call, communication is a lot easier today for long-distance partners. And, we’re also lucky of how instant text messaging and social media chats are. If you’re a long-distance apart, try and keep communication regular, whether that’s a few texts a day checking in or a phone call to catch up on things every day. Whatever it is, it’s important that you both make the effort to check in on each other regularly.

Plan your meetups - Missing each other is one of the hardest things about being apart, especially if you don’t know when you’ll be reunited again. The way to tackle this is always planning your next meet up. It could be one of you agreeing to see the other, meeting in the middle or going away on vacation together. When you’re reunited, it’ll make your time together even more special as you don’t have each other for long.

Reassure each other - In hard times, we always look to our partner for love and support but if you’re not physically able to be there, reassure them in as many ways as possible. This could be by a simple message, sending something in the post or a surprise visit.

Why you should embrace the outdoors as a couple more in winter

In the colder months, the majority of couples would prefer to spend their date nights or time together inside to essentially hide away from the cold weather. However, instead of avoiding it, try to embrace it. There are so many reasons why:

There are a lot of fun activities - When we picture winter activities, especially as a couple, there are many that spring to mind. You could go ice skating, to a Christmas market, outdoor theater, snowboarding, craft fair, Christmas events and more. You don’t need to hide away and have a movie night, night after night.

Winter walks are cozy - There’s no doubt, that wrapping up in a million layers of clothing and taking a stroll in the park is a pretty romantic thing to do. Open spaces, even when it’s chilly are beautiful to explore. Picture large parks covered in frost and vacant beaches - you really can’t get better than that.

There are fewer people - As you can imagine, the outdoors such as beaches, parks, and lakes are much more vacant in the winter time. With fewer people, it can make your date or general stroll, that bit more peaceful and private. You’ll even be able to take some lovely winter photos without crowds of people.

It’ll give you some fresh air - It may sound obvious, but if you spend all your time indoors in winter, you’ll miss the lovely feel of fresh air on the skin. Being outside will wake you up and give you both the energy for a productive day.

Fifty Shades: How fan fiction turned into a worldwide phenomenon

British author EL James could not have possibly imagined the runaway success of her Fifty Shades novels when she first started writing them a decade ago.

James was inspired to start writing after seeing the film Twilight and reading the novels which had inspired the movie. However, she confesses that she had no initial aspirations of becoming a novelist. She wrote fan fiction based on her love of Twilight and published each installment on fan websites.
The original work was entitled Master of the Universe, however, it quickly morphed in to the beginnings of her first novel Fifty Shades of Grey.

The book tells the story of the relationship between a rich and handsome businessman Christian Gray and Anastasia Steele, who is college graduate who meets Gray when she is sent to interview him for a newspaper. The books achieved huge publicity due to its erotic nature, with scenes detailing bondage, dominance and submission.

The book was initially self-published on James’s own website and made available in ebook format. It steadily gathered a following, leading to the rights for the book being snapped up by Vintage Books and soon it was filling shelves in bookstores around the world.

James’s initial writings formed part of a trilogy which eventually led to the publication of Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed. All three books have since been made into movies starring Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson.

Although they received poor critical response, the books have sold over 125 million copies worldwide and earned EL James $95 million.

Great Dating Ideas To Try In 2019

January is the perfect time to start thinking about your romantic relationships for 2019. But rather than relying on the traditional dinner and drinks, there are lots of other options you might want to try. Check out these three alternative ideas for dating that could transform your love life!

Take an art class together

Sometimes it can be difficult to fill those awkward pauses in conversation so enjoying an activity together can really help. An art class can help to distract you from any nervous feelings as well as providing a talking point. A typical class lasts no more than a couple of hours so you’ll have the time to go for a drink afterwards - and you’ll have lots to talk about!

Wine tasting

This might sound similar to just going for a drink but it’s so much more. A structured way to enjoy some time, you’ll learn more about wine than you ever thought possible - and you’ll get to sample lots of different wines too! This won’t just be a fun experience for you to enjoy but you’ll learn some things which might be useful to impress any future dates too!

Visit an Escape Room

This might not be for everyone but an escape room can be a stimulating and memorable way to spend an evening. There are venues which offer this activity; you’ll be locked into a room with a series of puzzles that you’ll need to solve to escape. The challenges you’ll face are utterly absorbing and will ensure that this is one date you’ll never forget!

If you want a little more instant romance, then why not lose yourself in the pages of a good book? You’ll find lots of online books about love - and much more! - at www.jubimedia.com any time, night or day.

Holiday Romances to Warm Your Heart

Over the holiday season, you’ll hopefully get a little more down time to relax and indulge in your favorite pastime. If you love reading and can’t get enough of romance, this is the ideal time to combine the two. Here are three suggestions for books on holidays romances which will warm your heart.

When Christmas Comes by Debbie Macomber

This book was the inspiration for Trading Christmas, the huge Hallmark movie hit. Funny, romantic and with multiple storylines, the tale switches between snow-filled Boston and the winter of Washington. Festive and full of Christmas cheer, it’s a feel-good love story you won’t be able to resist.

The Butterfly Bride by Vanessa Riley

Take a step back in time to Victorian days and discover this slow-burning romance which will leave you utterly entranced. Frederica needs to find a beau by Yuletide to avoid the awful suitor her father has lined up, but things aren’t looking good until Jasper comes along. However as a widower and a father with three children, a romance is the last thing he’s thinking about. That soon changes however as friends slowly become lovers…

Naughty But Nice by Donna Kauffman

A modern romance, this short novella is a story about opposites attracting. The owner of a small bakery is being pressured by a big developer to expand and grow, something she doesn’t want to do. Romantic Holiday Dates

The holidays aren’t just a time for large festive gatherings with family and friends, they’re a wonderful occasion to spend a bit more time with that special someone in your life. Though it may not always be easy to plan the perfect date night, here are three suggestions that make for a great holiday date!

Revisit your first date. What could be more romantic than revisiting the night where the magic began? Maybe it was at your local coffee shop where the two of you can share a brew at the counter again, or maybe a restaurant where you can book the same table and maybe even order the same meal. If your first date involved a movie that’s no longer in theatres, it’s the perfect occasion to end the evening with some snuggle time on the couch with the movie replaying for you at home.

Wander around. Many of us these days are fixated on going to specific places or doing specific things, but there’s much to be said for doing nothing in particular and letting the evening take you where it may. Perhaps a stroll through the neighborhood admiring holiday decorations or a walk through the park doing nothing more than just talking and appreciating each other’s company.

A games night! Be it at home, in a cafe, or at a themed bar, games are a great way to enjoy each other’s company when other options have been exhausted. What better way to let loose and unwind from holiday stress than by setting up some fun with your significant other?
